The Surface of Mars

3/10/2013 - 9:25 pm

UAT, Phoenix – Explore the surface of Mars and unlock new abilities to reach new places. Discover hidden caves and unlock their secrets, but keep an eye on your oxygen level, and watch out for dust storms.

We used actual data from the Mars Orbital Laser Altimeter to create the terrain (at a significantly smaller scale), and then modified it for gameplay purposes. We also used many of the sound assets through the player’s radio, as lost or distant signals.

The game is still a work in progress, but the core features are present, and the game is playable. Controls are WASD + Space Bar. Right shift opens the developer menu, which would not be present if the game was released.

Hey guys! Just a quick update on the project- We will be offering a newer version of the project in the days to come. For now, there are four locations with unlockables, and the right shift button warps you to specific points of interest. The game covers the majority of the Valles Marineris, with some changes specifically to suit the gameplay. We are hoping to take the process we used and import all of Mars in the near future.

I really didn’t expect this to work on my PC because of a certain other space-oriented Unity project, Kerbal Space Program. :P This works awesomely!

If this turns into a full-fledged project, I’d be thrilled. It’s beautiful, if a bit rough-looking.

Is there a website for this?

of course like your web-site however you need to check the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to inform the reality on the other hand I will definitely come again again.
